PHP eBook Update

I’ve been chugging along on my effort to finish my PHP eBook, and things are going well. I’ve finished several lessons over the last few days and I am on track to hit my November 5th release date. I will probably be done a few days ahead of that, but want to take some time to figure out my distribution method and work out any kinks.

A few people have contacted me and I sent them the most recent PDF versions of the PHP eBook. If you’re interested in getting a current copy, feel free to email me at chris@prointerneter.com.

I’ve tried to deal with StumbleUpon a few times, but every time I try I end up asking myself “What is StumbleUpon?” or “How Does StumbleUpon Work?” It seems that whenever I start browsing through StumbleUpon, I quickly get lost and have no idea what it is that I’m looking at.

Every user seems to have several pages connected to their profile. The main page appears to be a type of blog where the user can post comments and links to websites that they enjoy - but the confusion starts when I really want to start “stumbling” new websites. Yes you can go to the pages that have been selected by a given user, but there is just something about the way that everything interconnects that leaves me wondering if I’m seeing the full picture? Even when I go to the StumbleUpon homepage, I feel like I am seeing the same 10 sites that I always see.

As far as social networking and traffic building go, I find sites like Delicious and MyBlogLog to be much easier to understand and navigate. I’m not an internet newbie, but StumbleUpon just leaves me wondering what’s the point of it all.

Great Pumpkin 2007

Great Pumpkin“It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” tells the story of Linus and his belief in The Great Pumpkin, a character that brings presents to children that wait for him in the pumpkin patch on Halloween night. What happens when Linus gives up his Halloween candy to waith for The Great Pumpkin? Youl’ll have to watch to find out.

This year (2007) The Great Pumpkin will air Tuesday, October 30th on ABC. Showtime is 8pm Eastern, 7pm Central.

Last year “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” celebrated its 40th anniversary with the release of a retrospective book titled “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: The Making of a Television Classic”. The Great Pumpkin was nominated for an Emmy when it first aired in 1966.

While many of the old time Halloween Specials have faded from the public eye, The Great Pumpkin continues to live on. Perhaps due to its wholesome character, The Great Pumpkin has not been banished from television in the way that some other more racier holiday specials have been.

Watch “It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown” and help keep television history alive.

It’s a few hours after posting the World Series blog and 3 ‘articles’. The page is currently indexed in Google and showing up on page 2 of the search “World Series 2007″ (w/ quotes) and page 4 of “2007 World Series” (w/ quotes). It isn’t likely those terms will bring any traffic, but it’s neat to see that it’s getting placement in Google so quickly. I don’t know how much of this is related to it being a Blogspot.com blog, but I do notice that posts from other blogs are getting placed pretty quickly too.

An interesting World Series related tid-bit: The Colorado Rockies are looking to coin the phrase “Rocktober” (Rockies + October) but Rocktober.com is already owned by someone else. It will be interesting to see if anything comes of that. Currently if you type “Rocktober” into Google Roctober.com comes up #2 or #3.

2007 World Series

Well it is disappointing that the Cleveland Indians won’t be in the but we must move forward and continue with our lives. I’ve started a 2007 World Series blog, mostly for testing reasons. I won’t be watching all the games between the Boston Red Sox and Colorado Rockies, but rather I will use that blog to see how quickly I can launch into a moderately competitive market. I’d say on a 1 to 10 scale, the competition in this market would be a 4 or 5.

I figure over the next 2 weeks, people will be doing a lot of searches for “World Series” and “2007 World Series” - and it has been suggested that if you can you time things appropriately, you can can drive a good amount of traffic to a site, over the course of an event or a social fad. I’ve read about similar things being done during the Sydney Olympics and around the release of the iPhone. In the future I could develop a site that gets good traffic and use that to gain a good ranking around whatever the fad of the month might be.

I’ve been doing some research and it looks like that no matter what the year, the term “World Series” gets a lot more action that “2007 World Series” or “2006 World Series”, etc.
